Look forward to Pre-MerleFest activity beginning 2 pm Sunday before MerleFest 2016 for the celebration of music honoring Dr. T.R. Bryan Jr. The musical festivities continue the entire week at the Pickin' Place at MerleFest 2016. If you are interested in volunteering with WAFS at MerleFest 2016 contact Keith at 336.902.2570.

SPECIAL NOTE: ANN SEVERT NOTIFIED WEBMASTER THAT THE BOARD WILL ANNOUNCE BEGINNING DATE FOR THE 2016 GANDY DANCER JAM LATER IN THIS YEAR. This is a free event held at the historic North Wilkesboro Train Depot on Cherry Street in North Wilkesboro, NC. Jammin' begins at 7:00 pm each Friday night NOTE: NO JAM ON OPEN MIC NIGHTS AT TALIAS - SEE EVENTS!!. All ages: pickers, dancers, and music lovers are welcome. Chairs available or bring your own. This is a family event. No tobacco, no alcohol, and please no pets. Handicap accessible. Free parking.

ENDING NOTES: The musical world lost Charles Tesh in December 2014. Charlie was always present at musical events leading slow jams, singing and telling stories. Charlie frequently visited long term care facilities sharing his talent. RIP our friend. The musical world lost another great musician in April 2015. The Grammy Award winner and Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame member Tut Taylor passed away unexpectedly. WAFS will strive to honor your contributions to our organization. Thank you both for the music and all you taught us. Your presence will always be felt.

WAFS Monthly Meeting - 2/22/2016 - 7:00 pm - Wilkes Heritage Museum
Monthly meeting at the Wilkes Heritage Museum in downtown Wilkesboro on Main St. at 7:00 PM. The meeting will begin with a brief business meeting to recruit volunteers for MerleFest 2016. The museum is handicap friendly with an elevator at the back entrance, please no pets, alcohol, or tobacco. See you there.

After our feature work shop, we'll move into groups for old-time, acoustic folk, and blue grass jams. Celebration of Music Dr. T.R.Bryan Jam - 4/24/2016 - 2:00 pm Pickin Place - WAFS tents on the WCC MerleFest grounds across from Thompson Hall
Sunday: 2 pm CELEBRATION OF MUSIC Everyone invited to honor Dr. Bryan. Before Dr. Bryan passed away in 2011, he requested the Pickin' start on Sunday prior to the festival. ARMBAND NOT REQUIRED. Free admission. Kruger Brothers, Elkville String Band, Back Porch Bluegrass Band, and WAFS members are expected to participate. Meet members of Dr. Bryan's family that are carrying on his legacy and his love for music. Plan on joining us in kicking off the 28th year of MerleFest All ages, musicians, dancers, singer, spectators, welcome! Tobacco and alcohol free campus. Parking in Alumni Hall lots. Musicians subject to change.

Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention - 9/2/2016 - 7 pm - NC HWY 268 West
9/2/16-9/4/16 (Mile marker 8.6). Historic Happy Valley near Patterson NC. Competition, food, camping, exhibits, concerts on Sunday AND Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention will be offering “Instrument Makers Tent” Saturday. Beginning at 9:00 AM Pre-register at 828-758-9448 so we can have a free pass for you at the gate and a reserved table. Instruments and other musical items that were personally handcrafted at the Luthiers table will be for sale. All old or purchased instruments will be for display only.

Brushy Mtn AppleFest Jammin - 10/1/2016 - 6 am till 3 pm - North Wilkesboro Train Depot Cherry St
WAFS invites you to our biggest scholarship fundraiser. $5 per vehicle parking, best place in town to park and pick. Bring your instruments and dancin' shoes and jam or just listen. Chairs provided or bring your own. Handicap friendly, please no alcohol or tobacco. Hope to see you!
